Joey Bryant isn’t big on social media, in terms of followers or usage. Every once in a blue moon, he’ll post a random workout video or something of the sorts, but that’s about it. Been that way for years now since he stepped away from wrestling & any sort of spotlight.
It was the same on the morning of July 31st. A random video with his usual workout routine & progress, but sprinkled in between each workout clip was a different type of footage that is usually shown. First, it’s Joey standing outside a random, run down arena in the middle of what looks to be a desert.
“VEGAS”
More workout footage. Followed by a clip of Joey standing at the back of what looks to be quite the rambunctious crowd of people, observing the scene in front of him.
“RAZOR”
More workout footage. Followed by clips of wrestling.
“VEGAS”
More workout footage. End of video. Wrestling? What is Joey Bryant doing at a random wrestling show in Vegas? I’m sure the 3 people that retweeted it and 23 people that liked it would love to know.
CURRENT DAY, MONDAY AUGUST 7TH 2023
Another social media post from Joey Bryant. Usually it's weeks, sometimes months before he posts again, what workout could we possibly have today, JB? This time it’s just a link to a YouTube video titled “RAZOR”.
The video opens with a drone camera flying over a medium sized building in the middle of some green countryland. Just a few houses and barns surrounding the building in focus. Maybe a small town in the distance. The drone begins to lower down towards the ground and we see a rusted sign with nothing on it but “GYM” in bright, orange letters. The drone footage cuts off and switches to the view inside, with someone now holding a portable camera and filming manually.
The inside of the gym looks like any stereotypical, run-down gym you’d see in a movie or in any small town throughout the country. Dim lights, torn apart punching bags, a few weight benches, and in the corner, a wrestling ring. 2 gentlemen are seen practicing the same move over & over. Arm drag. Arm drag. Arm drag. The cameraman doesn’t have the best stability control with the camera, definitely not professional. After a couple seconds of fumbling around, the camera is placed stationary on what seems to be a random table, with a chipped & worn wooden chair sitting in “middle”, the wrestling ring in the background.
34 year old Joey Bryant, with a mic taped to his chest, walks into frame wearing a black tank top and black skinny jeans. Some wrist tape wrapped around his wrists, barely hanging on. He sits down in the chair and smirks into the camera as the thuds of the wrestling ring make noise behind him.
JOEY BRYANT: Hey there. Been a while.
He turns behind him to look at the ring, and then looks off somewhere behind the camera for a moment before quickly shaking his head, snapping out of it and looking back at the camera.
JOEY BRYANT: How long has it been? Well, I’m not even sure I could answer that question. Time has just been slippin’ on by, hasn’t it? Feels like just yesterday when myself & many other talented individuals started a movement in the business of professional wrestling that has yet to be replicated or continued and…
Joey pauses again and looks down at his feet, takes a deep breath, then looks back up at the camera.
JOEY BRYANT: I apologize. Who wants to talk about the past anymore, eh? Let me try again. Sorry folks, it’s a one man team here. Let’s hope I can even figure out how to upload this video properly. My name is Joey Bryant. I am a former professional wrestler, a former World Champion, and a former… no, see, there I go again. My name is Joey Bryant. I am a professional wrestler and I am here to announce I will be returning…debuting, for a promotion based out of the great city of Las Vegas, Nevada called RAZOR Wrestling.
He smirks and relaxes back into the chair.
JOEY BRYANT: That’s more like it. That’s it. RAZOR Wrestling. There’s your announcement, got that out of the way real quick. I don’t need the glitz & glamor of a grand reveal, I don’t need to keep it a secret, nothing I do matters until I make it matter and Joey Bryant has always been a man that makes matters matter. How’s that for a catchphrase, huh?
He chuckles and leans forward a bit.
JOEY BRYANT: For all the fans out there wondering “Why RAZOR? Why now?”, well, I’m still trying to figure that out myself, but I was a big Razor Rockwell fan back in the day, even bigger fan of Molly Bones.
Joey does a quick “wink” into the camera.
JOEY BRYANT: I’ll explain more as we go along here, but let it be known the man they dubbed “The Martyr” is officially back. Tune into GRBG this Sunday night. Figure out a way to watch it. I begin my journey back into the world of professional wrestling like any humble man should, on the kickoff show of what they’re calling “Superunknown” going against the man they call Murder Ninja. The first GRBG Champion. A man that literally took another man's eye out in his quest to win that belt.
JB shakes his head and tries to erase the thought of that.
JOEY BRYANT: Unnecessary. Truly. I don’t plan on losing an eye, in fact all I care about at this moment is bringing some more eyes to the world of RAZOR, and that all starts this Sunday. See you soon. See you in Las Vegas. Much to say, and so much to do…
Joey stands up and rips off his wrist tape and begins to walk towards the ring as the video ends. I’m sure Joey will be thrilled with the 82 views this one gets, if he’s lucky.
