Beep-Beep-Beep
Jimmy Campbell slowly opened his eyes and grabbed his phone from the bedside table. As he turned it on, the bright screen scorched his eyes, forcing them wide open. He checked the time, 8:32. He groaned and snoozed his alarm before going settling back into bed, his beautiful girlfriend Susie snoring beside him, when his phone buzzed with a notification. He reluctantly turned his phone back and checked the message.
Colby Bruce - Hey, you up yet? I'm ready to train whenever you are. We need to practice if we're gonna stand a chance at winning the tag titles!
Jimmy Campbell : For fuck's sake man, it's 8:30
He opened his phone to check the other 122 notifcations
Colby Bruce - 121
(559) 574-8424 - 1
John Ricker - 1
He sighed before putting his phone down and closing his eyes until he realised what the last message was. He grabbed his phone and quickly checked the text.
John Ricker - Hey, Jim, long time no talk. I know things didn't end the best between you and the rest of the guys but I just wanted to let you know that despite you knocking up Shaun's chick I always respected you man. Anyway that's besides the point. I saw your putting the band back together. It reminded me of the old days. That kid, Colby, he's got potential. You've got a real eye for talent Jim. I'm not sure if you'll even read this but if you do good luck in your matches. I'll be watching from back home in Cleveland.
P.S - If you ever need a drummer, give me a call.
John Ricker. That's a name he'd not seen in god knows how long. He was the drummer back in the original Steel Rockers. Before the drama and infighting caused them to split. Jimmy always liked John even after what happened. He was much better than the rests of those assholes. He sat in silence for a bit his past rushing back to him. All the arguments, all the yelling, all the stupid fights. He sat and thought about what he did wrong. Then he realised, absolutely fucking nothing. It was all those assholes's fault, all they wanted was his fame and his popularity as the lead singer. He was the one on the front of magazines, he was the one doing all the late night talk shows, he was the one staring in documentaries and for a damn good reason. He was the only thing worth talking about in the band. Despite that, he still considered giving John a call. The silence was broken by another notification from Colby. Jimmy grumbled before getting out of bed and heading to the kitchen to make himself some breakfast.
After finishing his breakfast, Jimmy got dressed, grabbed his keys and started up his van. He got in and turned on the radio. It was playing some shitty pop by some shitty band. He sighed then began driving to Colby's apartment.
On the way there, he though more about John's offer. Did he really need his help? He'd probably be a lot better than Colby. But what if what happened last time happened again. No! He couldn't let The Steel Rockers be torn apart again especially not by one of his old bandmates.
He arrived at Colby's apartment. He and his mom had moved there after Jimmy began training Colby. So they could live closer to Jimmy's training gym. He knocked on their door and was greeted by Colby's mom, Jackie.
Jackie Bruce : Hey Mr. Campbell!
Jimmy Campbell : Please call me Jimmy.
Jackie Bruce : Alright, well then Jimmy, how've you been? Colby's been telling me about your match. The kids not shut up about it since.
Jimmy Campbell : Yeah, he did pretty well considered it was first match for a major company. Speaking of Colby, is he home? I'm hoping to pick him up for some training.
Jackie Bruce: Oh, yes. He's in his room, studying some tapes. I'll call him. COLBY! JIMMY'S HERE!
Colby came darting down the stairs with a backpack full of VHS tapes and his ring gear.
Colby Bruce : Hey, so I've been thinking about our strategy for Superunknown.
Jimmy Campbell groaned. The kid was passionate that's for sure but damn was he annoying.
Jimmy Campbell : Can it wait till we're in the car?
Colby sighed and nodded. Jimmy said goodbye to Jackie and him and Bruce walked to the car. Once they were in and Jimmy had the radio on the drown out the noise, Colby began to speak.
Colby Bruce: Alright, you ready now?
Jimmy mumbled something to himself before nodding and pressing down the gas pedal.
Colby Bruce : So, as you know, we're wrestling two matches in one night if we want to win this tournament. So I asked my mum and she bought us a shitload of energy drinks. That way after we dominate our match against Los Redebles de Bien, we can drink them all before the final so we're energized and ready to do it all again.
Jimmy Campbell : That is the worst fucking idea I've ever heard. I can't believe what you've just said. You know what you're walking to the gym. Get out!
Colby slowly got out the car, tears forming in his eyes.
Jimmy Campbell : I better see you at the gym before lunch you hear me. Otherwise, you ain't gonna be teaming with me for Superunknown
Colby nodded and stomped down street.
Jimmy sighed and began to start back up the car until he had an idea. He pulled out his phone and checked John's message on last name. He looked at the last line over and over.
P.S - If you ever need a drummer, give me a call.
Jimmy looked back at Colby, meandering down the street, and back at the text and gave John a call. Colby never was the best drummer.
