–Some Random School in Upstate New York. Wednesday, October 18th. 4 Days before RAZOR #14–
The beautiful sights of autumn in NY are shown from the perspective of a moving car. Different shots of fully bloomed trees with their colors changing and leaves falling and some early morning grey skies to go along with it. A peak fall day. Some lovely lo-fi music in the background. The shots continue for a few moments before it fades into a shot of the outside of a medium-sized brick school building. We see school buses & cars/vans dropping off kids before the camera pans and we see RAZOR Vanguard Champion Joey Bryant walking on a sidewalk with a middle-aged secretary looking woman talking next to him as they walk towards the entrance. Joey’s got an all black suit on and a drawstring bag over his shoulder. The camera approaches the two of them and we begin to hear the conversation.
School Secretary: …so the kids will hopefully be able to gain some inspiration from a local success story like yourself!
Joey chuckles as they continue walking down the long sidewalk to the school’s front doors.
Joey Bryant: Only recently successful. Not even sure if I’d use the word successful just yet, still got a lot of work to do and I’m only a small part of what this company is doi–
School Secretary: Right, right. The company. Look I’m not sure if we can promote a company called “RAZOR” Wrestling, or really promote the type of things you folks do, so we’re just going to say you’re a professional bodybuilder! It’ll be a great section in the school’s newsletter.
Joey Bryant: …alright. Yeah that’s cool. Anything to get the kids inspired to get active, I suppose.
They reach the front of the building and Joey opens the door for the woman. They walk inside together, the camera follows, and they continue talking.
School Secretary: Exactly! Follow me through the office, it’ll only take a few minutes. Just a few questions about that recent weight-lifting championship you won.
The lady winks at Joey and smirks and Joey gives off his best fake smile. The lady stops them both in their tracks.
School Secretary: The cameras must stay outside though. This is a school after all. Can you leave the bag you’re carrying with security too?
Joey is about to object, but abides by the school’s request and reluctantly hands his bag to the nearby security guard. They continue walking and make their way into the front office, leaving the camera behind.
Some time passes. It was probably 20 real minutes but the scene jumps to outside the school in an instant. It’s quiet now, classes have begun and the camera just rests on a tripod at the end of the front door walkway outside. In a moment, out walks Joey Bryant with his bag in hand. He’s seen shaking the hand of the secretary momentarily and waving goodbye as he turns to walk down the sidewalk. He digs in his bag and pulls out a wireless & wearable microphone and attaches it to his suit jacket. He spreads his arms out and smiles at the camera as he walks towards it.
Joey Bryant: Come on, now! A promo for RAZOR outside of a school? You guys are too much, this is too much.
He definitely knew the camera would be waiting for him. He chuckles and shakes his head and makes his way to get closer to the camera.
Joey Bryant: As the NEW Vanguard Champion of RAZOR Wre–
He digs in his bag again and pulls out the Vanguard Championship. He tosses the bag to the side and slings the belt over his shoulder.
Joey Bryant: As a champion, this is what it’s all about! Inspiring the youth and doing some media work, and it feels great to be back home before heading back out west to the great RAZOR faithful. Been a long tour, but look at how far we’ve come! Got some fresh gold AND got a tag partner, Kash Warren, who I’m sure will be thrilled to see me at the arena.
He readjusts the belt on his shoulder and takes a deep breath.
Joey Bryant: The champ’s already got a target on his back though, and I know that’s why y’all have been following me around today! What will JB have to say about Roxie…Dixon. Well, she’s got some moxie, I'll tell you that. Roxie with the moxie. Yeah I actually loved what she had to say, I respect the challenge and I will always be willing to defend this championship any given week and I’m excited to get the chance to show the world what this new breed of RAZOR stars is capable of with the gold on the line. And while I’m sure the “Roxie Show” is a very entertaining program, I’m afraid the first season is one full of trial & error. The pilot episode proved to be promising and I’m sure the RAZOR faithful will show you the love that you deserve but you cannot expect to take the primetime slot right off the bat! We can do our crossover special, I can give you the fight of your life and we can sling down a couple drinks afterwards at whichever headbanging bar you choose but my journey as Vanguard Champion has only just begun.
I don’t need a team of goons to intimidate you. My matches don’t need a stipulation. I have yet to receive any type of praise from the Consortium, Sophie Whimm, and god knows whatever Molly is up to! I do this for RAZOR alone, I do this for the principle of this Vanguard Championship, and I’ll do this for Dick Delaurier - get well soon, buddy. I also do this for you, Roxie. I will be the vanguard for your spotlight moment, and I will sacrifice every piece of me to show the world what you're all about. The championship stays with me, though.
He puts the title back in the bag, rips off the mic, and smiles into the camera before walking away as the scene fades.
